New rig having problems

Hey guys I just got some new parts for my computer today and replaced the old parts with it.

So far I'm running:
i7-950
GA-X58-USB3 LGA 1366 X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
ATi Radeon HD4850
6GB OCZ Ram
Tagan 580W PSU

After I got everything put on the computer and I tried to start it up, it keeps crashing. I'm suspecting I need a bigger PSU but I'm not sure and would like to hear your opinions. So I start up the computer and try installing Win7 and it gets 50% in and it crashes. Then I try again and it crashes before even starting it. The crash seems to be random and not exactly on a specific part. Does anyone know whats wrong? Thanks.
 
Sometimes windows doesn't like it when you have more than 4GB of RAM when installing.

Try installing windows with one RAM stick on the slot closest to the CPU.

After that you can put all your RAM back in and it should work fine. I hope you're installing a 64bit version.
 
NO i do not think its your PSU, it could be your cooling, can you get into bios and see the temp of you system.. see it might be over heating.

also check your ram, could be faulty or incompatible, try going to your mobo manufacturers website and looking if your ram is there.

also what old parts did you keep?
 
I kept my gpu ( HD4850), my psu and my hard drives. My hard drive had xp but I'm trying to write win7 over it. And yes I got win7 64bit. Is it true win7 home 64b still won't let me use all my ram? And ill try it by removing 2 ram sticks. Ill let you know How that goes. Thanks for the help guys.
 
As long as the OS is 64bit you can use all of your RAM, sometimes it doesn't like having more than 4gb in the mobo when installing windows.

It might also help to manually setup the speeds/timing/voltage of your RAM sticks in the BIOS.

Oh and one more thing, before you install windows, go into the BIOS and change the SATA mode from IDE to AHCI
 
It still keeps crashing by itself from time to time. I'm getting my new PSU in tomorrow. Hopefully that fixes everything :(
