New Rig, need some help.

Its been > 4 years since the last build I did for a friend, so a HELL of a lot of new stuff has come out.

My question is, can you guys help me find out what will fit with what? :D This is what I've decided on atm.

Definitely Buying:

Corsair HX1000W Power Supply (Unless someone can show me a larger powersupply from a reputable company)
http://www.corsair.com/products/hx1000/default.aspx

Dominator GT Corsair RAM
http://www.corsair.com/products/dominatorgt/default.aspx

Need help deciding between:

X58 SLI Micro
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/14478/37/

Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2957

I need a high capacity MOBO cause I plan on eventually running tri-GPU's, and the Corair ram is insanely good, but not a whole lot of MB's provide enough capacity for them, so I'm limited to about 8-10 that I know of, the two here are IMO the best of the crop, but feel free to jump in with another suggestion =D

Which CPU?

Intel I7
or
AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core

Both are powerful, I dont know too much about the I7, as I said, I've been out of the tech part for a while now, according to my friends they claim the I7 is the 'biggest and baddest', is it? Lol, or is the AMD the better way to go?

Finally, I will get Nvidia GPU's, but I'm also tossing up between either buying the new GTX 295, which amazingly looks as if its got two cards in one, thus only take up one slot on the mobo, WHICH does that mean you would have effective 6 GPUs? LOL, correct me if I'm wrong, but thats how I read it =S
Otherwise, I'll go for the 285's.

Finally, I am not too sure on any other cards at the moment, I want to cement the core stuff first, so as that way I can find out what works best with what I end up deciding on. But please, if you have suggestions for extra's let me know =D

But yeah, I really need to find out which CPU and mobo to get.
So please, help :D

Well srry i can;t help much cuase im not the best at choosing the "best of the best" in hard ware but i can answer some questions.

If you want the most power, go with the i7. They beat the 955 in just about everything. But intel is making like 2 or 3 new sockets on us so i don't know what the upgradablilty will be on this rig.

If you want a cheaper resort, go with amd no doubt, amd is great for budget buils and the new 955 cpu does about the same in games as the 920 i7 (few fps behind) So if your a gamer go with amd, cause theres no since in paying 500+ for a cpu/mobo that only gets you 2-5 fps better on a game.AMD systems have FANTASTIC upgrability, the new am3 socket will be out for a while, there will be some newer and better cpus coming out, and you don't have to upgrade your whole system, just to run the new cpu.

But i have a feeling you want the biigest and best, so i wold go with intel i7, it will cost you 1200-2400$(estimate) if you want all the stuff that your planning in this thing.:)

To tell you the truth, I'm an AMD fan, haha, but I've seen some benchmarks which say that the I7 extreme is almost 100% faster than the AMD phenom, which kinda shocked me a LOT, how the hell did AMD fall so far behind?!?! LOL
But thanks for the input =D
I do want it to be future proof, I prefer to buy 1 part once ina while to upgrade it rather than a slab of components to upgrade >< so thats another reason why i am hesitant about jumping to the 'latest and greatest' with the I7, and as you just said, theres supposedly an early release of some new chips from Intel which is interesting.

The mobo I'm not sure about I'll leave that one for somebody else. The best AMD CPU is the Phenom II X4 955 black edition 3.2GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674. The best i7 is the i7-975 Extreme Edition Bloomfield 3.33GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115212 see the price difference. The Intel i7-975 is just a tiny bit better then the Phenom II 955 and cost over $700 more. So yes Intel is better but at that cost all go with AMD any day. The GTX 295 is made of two cards the GTX 295 is just 2 GTX 275s put together. I don't think you can SLI any more then 2 GTX 295s but I'm not 100% on that. I do know the GTX 295 is huge this thing is massive as is all the GTX cards and I don't see fitting 3 or 4 on a motherboard maybe 2.

This should put it in perspective for you

o cool, haha me too, you must have seen the benchmarks for the original phenom? did you see the phenom 2 vs. i7?

Then i would go amd if you wanta upgrade parts over time, like you said intel is coming out with new cpu's i3,i5,i7,i9 the i3 is 775 rename i beleive, i5 is a totally new socket, and the i7/i9 have the same i beleive, ill find the chart somewhere. lol:P so confusing, they should do what AMD is doing.

Wow! THanks for that fatback, I honestly didn't expect it to be that large, I knew it was a fat card, but... LOL, thats a big.
Yup, thanks for the clarification =D I'll go with AMD, it looks like there some more overclockability in it also, as well as a lower power draw which is allways a plus.

This is the benchmarks I was going by:

The Phenom II X4 955 is not on the chart I'm guessing if it where it would be under the
i7 940 or 965.

Haha yeah I agree, kinda makes you wonder how much overclocking potential sits with the 955 =P

Very excited about this build, havent done one in ages so I'll be having a mate help, he recently completed his build with the I7 extreme and that thing just left my latop for dead. I could manage full HD crysis at medium & SOME high graphics quality, with zero rendering/anti-aliasing. But his blitzed everything fully - left me gawking =P haha.

But yeah, i've allways loved AMD, their processors are just little tanks, love 'em, and as mentioned, now they're so much more affordable than intel chips its just not funny ^^

Does anyone know a company that makes 10,000 rpm hdd?
