New Rig + New OS

I have a new rig that does not have a OS yet and i have the windows 7 iso on a disk.

What do i do now? pls help.

You make sure in your bios you have boot to cdrom above harddrive. You then place the disk in the rom and boot your computer up. It will get to a point where it ask you to hit any key to boot from the rom. From there it is pretty straight forward.

I come to a blue screen that says Windows 7 at the bottom. And says this is for testing purposes only, but nothing is happening. nothings loading or anything.

Was i supposed to put the asus motherboard disk in first or install the OS then install the gpu drivers and stuff.

Edit: Ok i just had to wait a bit but now its working. be back if i have another question. Sorry for all the questions but i have never done this before.

Yeah the Window 7 installer has a lot of "stall" points it seems with no indication that anything is going on. Just be patient and it will install!

You should aware that windows 7 is in beta stage which expire in august if I not wrong. Then you will never able to boot 7 anymore. If you want to try it install it. If you want to use your pc for a long time better use vista or xp.

Well i have till a august to use this then. then i will decide what to do. But why would i buy vista when windows 7 is in the making. doesnt make sense to me.

Hey thermal, my asus support disk isnt recognized by windows 7. What do i do?

What does it say? I am not really sure with windows 7 as I have not tried to install it yet. I did apply to get it so when I have it installed I will be able to help you out more. But in the meantime see if you can install the vista drivers.

7 is still in the beta stage so not everything will work with it quite yet.
See if any of the 7 updates have drivers for your board.
I have an x58 board and it found drivers for mine.

Well what you said is true. There no point buy vista when 7 is around the corner.

Access the device manager and look for any yellow question marks. The only driver you may be missing is for the SMbus controller, which really isn't critical. I'm running an X58 system, and all my hardware was recognized by Windows 7 upon installation, including my video card.

Hmm idk what SMbus is but. Since my disk doesnt work with 7. I cant install like the turbo V and stuff or my software for the OC/Palm screen thing that came with my mobo. Ill try the device manager thing when i get home.

For applications like this, you can right click the setup.exe or installation package and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility." The OS will attempt to install the program in compatibility mode for Windows Vista. It may not work, but it's worth a try.

Yeah, you're gonna run into compatibility issues with software. Hardware, however, seems to be pretty well supported.
