New rig - thoughts?

My mobo died a few days ago and instead of replacing it, I'm getting a completely new rig and I'll use the old parts to build a backup computer.

This is it:

Case: Apex Amoris 6010

PSU: OCZ ZS 750W

Mobo: Gigabyte Z68AP-D3-B3

CPU: i5 2500K

GPU: MSI GTX570 Twin Frozr III OC

RAM: DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX Blu 2x4GB


HDD & BD-RW will remain the same - WD Caviar Black 1TB & LG BH10LS30.


At first I wanted to get the 2600K, but the 2500K is so much cheaper, especially here in Croatia.

I haven't ordered it yet so if you have any better suggestions, please let me know.

Where are you buying these parts from? What are the prices? (Even if they're in whatever currency you use in croatia, I'll convert it.)
 
I was going to suggest a different brand of power supply, but that looks like the best brand they have at that site. You could go with a 650w and still have plenty of headroom.

Other than that, looks pretty good.
 
Yeah, the site in question gets their stuff directly from the supplier so if they don't have it, no one here does.

Anyway, a few questions:

1) is that RAM fully compatible with a Sandy Bridge, because I read somewhere that it might be better to get 1.5v RAM instead of 1.65v?

2) that Z68 board has a PCI-E x4 port besides the x16 one, so would it be possible to use my GTX 285 as a PhysX card in that port? Is that PSU strong enough for both cards?

lower voltage is better, and easier to get working compatibility wise with your processor, I wouldnt recommend putting the 285 in the x4 slot, it would be bottlenecked severely, nor would i recommend putting that card in conjunction with the 570, they are worlds apart performance wise iirc.

It would only be used for PhysX. Nothing else.
 
A 570 runs physx and the graphics just fine. I doubt there will be much performance increase. And yeah, go with 1.5v. All RAM is compatible with sandy bridge (As long as it fits the motherboard also.) It's just a marketing ploy to say it works with sandy bridge.
