Looks good imo - top of the line :o

Dang! Much better than mine, that's for sure. Everything seems to be compatible so I'd have to say you've got yourself a good build there.

For that exact build the subtotal is: $2,277.34

I have around $2600.00 to spend, I've been saving here and there for quite awhile to build a dream machine.

You MUST buy/have a good monitor and speakers to fully enjoy the video card and sound card. If not, then you are wasting money.

Personally, I would not invest into such expensive high end parts (like the ram and sound card). Also, I would buy a SSD coupled with a slightly slower hard drive instead of the one you chose.

Buy less expensive parts so you can upgrade later on. When newer parts are released, they typically are cheaper, but offer better performance/more features.

Just my opinion-
Focus on purchasing a good monitor, case, speakers, motherboard, psu, and processor. Especially the monitor and case because they will last a long time, before requiring an upgrade (so don't cheap out on them).

Everything looks good, just some parts are too high end. By the time games use the full potential of your system, newer, better and, less expensive parts will be released

Id change a couple of things.

1. GTX295, useless unless your running two of them imo. You can pick up two HD4890's, crossfire them, save $100 and have better performance. Not to mention the radeon 5xxx series will be coming out soon.

2. Those dominators are overpriced, you can pick up some 1600mhz mushkin for cheaper with better timings, or you could get some 2000mhz G.Skill for $149.

3. If you are GAMING, id recommend an X-fi over the xonar. However, if you are looking just for good audio from music, go with the xonar.

4. V8 is mediocre at best tbh, id pick up a Prolimatech megahalems or Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, and then a decent 120mm fan such as a scythe slipstream, coolermaster r4, or medium speed ultra kaze.

5. Personally speaking... id get either of these motherboards over the vanilla X58 from evga:

Any reason for choosing the vraptor? Its not going to help gaming performance much if at all, and as far as raw transfer rates a caviar black is almost identical. Only advantage the vraptor has is ~5-6x cost per GB and a few ms faster random read times.

These would be what i recommend changing to:

GPU, wait until radeon 5xxx, they will be out relatively soon(Few days supposedly) and a single 5870 supposedly performs just as well as a GTX295. These are "deactivated" and not in stock atm:

The only things I would really consider changing are the Hard drive, Sound card, and CPU cooler.

Could you maybe explain the difference between the hard drives a bit easier to me, the only reason I'm faithful to raptor drives is because I've always had them and never had ANY problems with them.

Also, I do listen to music a lot but I do game a bit more, so maybe you can tell me what the best card for that would be.

Lastly, I'd like to see some top end i7 CPU cooler benchmarks if you can.

Thanks a lot,

Manny

I would say go with the Thermalright Cooler and the Scythe Ultra Kaze high static pressure fan. Best combo imo and is what I use now (well the IFX-14 cooler but same thing). With this combo I have hit 4.5GHZ on air. Not an everyday OC but temperatures at 100% were only in the high 70's. I do 4.0GHZ easily and sit at 36-39c idle and 65-67c full load.

Now for the harddrives I have a question for you on what you expect from them. Are you going to hold critical stuff that you can't lose or are you willing to sacrifice stability for ultimate speed? I run Raid 0 with 4 hard drives and have ran them in this configuration since February with out ever having any problems. With my 4 drives I do triple the performance the raptor can do and have 2 tb's of space. The drives were only 90 dollars a peice and if you have critical things you want to keep you could buy a fifth and just leave stuff on there. I use an external to keep all that kind of stuff. The down side is if one drive fails all my data is lost or even if the array fails I lose everything. But that's why I bought Raid Edition drives that have a special chip built in them to do special error checking to prevent that. Stills doesn't protect me from a drive failing completely but I have alot of trust in Western Digitals. Here are the new ones and they put my drive to shame. 3 of these almost out performs all 4 of mine. Western Digital RE3 500GB and if you don't want all that space here is the 320gb for only 69.99 Western Digital RE3 320GB

Can someone help with a sound card,

Like I'm a audiophile, but I also game A LOT I play WoW, BF2, CS:S, and I'm looking into getting into some new FPS's so I wanna get the best out of my Sennheiser HD 595's.

Well, the problem i have with the GTX295 is the price, when it can be beat by two 4890's for $100 less.

Any reason you want the dominators? They are the most overpriced memory out there...you can get mushkin(best memory out there imo) with lower timings for cheaper or faster Mhz G.skill(good memory aswell) for similar price.

Megahalems is the best CPU cooler out there, it beats the TRUE which used to be considered the best cpu cooler. Unless your watercooling nothing else ties or beats the megahalems.

Sound card is better for gaming as it does EAX and similar hardware acceleration in games that support it. BF2 especially was built with support for the X-fi.

HDD would technically be more reliable as its not as high of an RPM, and would be pretty much as quick for quite a bit less.
