New Samsung Monitor

Hi,

I recently purchased a 19" Widescreen Samsung Monitor to connect to my Dell Inspiron Laptop.

The monitor and laptop are currently connected via VGA cable.

However, the recommended resolution for the monitor is 1440x900 and it is currently displaying as 1024x768, which is not the best as it looks blurry and out of focus.

The laptop has a 15.4" Widescreen display and is currently displaying 1280x800.

I was wondering if there was a way to get the Samsung monitor to display 1440x900? If not that then display what the laptop is displaying (1280x800?)

I have been through the display settings in control panel but can't fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What OS are you using?

If you are using XP and you right click on your desktop and go properties, then display (or something). Select the secondary monitor and you should be able to drag the bar across until it gets to 1440*900.

Im not sure what you need to do if you are running Vista.

Im running on Vista.

I think I have tried that but this is what it is displaying.

Also not sure why the white is a pinky shade in the print shot? But the display is currently very streched as its 1024x768 on a widescreen 19" monitor?

Right click on monitor 2 and hit "attached", set res slider all the way to the right then hit apply. I dont see any pinky shade to the print screen, did you see that in windows preview perhaps? As you need to disable the color profile for your monitor.

Edit- On the display properties screen, where u see monitor 1 and 2 in that screenshot, right click on the greyed out monitor 2 and hit attached, then set res slider and hit apply;)

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

I have done what you said but the problem still occurs? However, now the desktop has been extended over two screens (my monitor and my laptop) which I was trying to avoid, I just want the Samsung monitor to display not the laptop screen.

Here is a print screen.

Thanks for the help so far! I appreciate it.

Basically, is there no way I can improve on this current resolution?

It's really blurry and unclear on the 19" monitor. I've read a few posts on here and it seems that it is fairly easy to get a good display on an external monitor.

Do I need additional software?

Thanks.

I assume that your monitor can display the resolution you want. And I assume you know how to adjust the resolution in Windows. Given that, what is left is video drivers. Be sure you have the right ones.

My graphics card is Mobile Intel 945GM Express

What I don't get is that it will display 1280x800 fine on a widescreen 15.4" laptop screen but it won't display anything greater than 1024x768 on the 19" widescreen monitor?

Any other ideas? Thanks for the response so far.
