New Server

I am creating dedicated server CSS. I am thinking either making it a 24/7 cs_militia or a gun game server. For simplicity and ease it will be a cs_militia at first. Player slots (8-10) will be kind of low as the PC has wireless internet. This is subject to change in the future. Your input is welcome; I'll get the IP to you as soon as it's ready. Laters.

Edit: Khaos 24/7 Militia 75.39.129.87:27015 Player slots is set at 8. If you max it out while I'm gone please let me know if you experienced any serious lag problems. If it works great at 8 then I'll up it to 10 and so on till it's too much. Just post back here or send me a pm with how things went.

Sweet, when you let me know I'll join.

I think its pretty rad your trying to go for something different. But your not going to have a whole bunch of people if your only doing cs_militia, I mean, thats like one of the least played maps. De_dust and such, thats a different story...

Militia rulez, you'll see. Anywayz the server is almost up. I am just trying to install mani admin mod. IP coming soon!

If you need any help, let me know. I've setup a few servers in my day :P

I do need your help actually. I set it up and ran it. It worked fine except it was really laggy. I blamed the fact that I was using wi-fi. So I brought the PC upstairs to where the router is to have a wired connection. I am running the server via console way. Everything is showing that it is ready and running all I need to do is connect.

So I'm on my regular pc, now trying to connect and nothing. Server is not responding. I am pinging the IP in command and all packets are being lost.

I switch back the the server pc and it's connect to the internet just fine and I browse webpages and the server console looks like it's running normally.

I don't understand why I can't connect.

Ediit: I found that other can connect to the server using the pc's internal ip, but others still can't connect using the external ip. I noticed both the server PC and my rig PC have same external IPs? is this causing the problem? Help.

UPDATE

I dunno what problems I was having last nite. The server is up and running but it's still laggy. It seems this project might already be in the gutter.

PC specs are P4 @ 2.53 ghz, 1.5 gb ddr, with upload speed of 433. This should be good enough for a smaller server no?

I'll get the IP to you once I tweak the server settings and I a little more sure that this is actually plausable.

Good idea for only Militia, it is a great map :D

I don't think I'll be playing this game soon, got so much School work and I can't find the time to play CS anymore :(

Okay guys I edited to the orignal post to include the IP but I will also repeat it here. Server IP is 75.39.129.87:27015 If you experience any problems I may have taken it down to tweak the server settings otherwise enjoy Khaos 24/7 Militia.

If I could get 8 volunteers to help me load up the server could you please reply your interest here or PM me. Once I have 8 we can decide on a time/date. Thank you.

Sorry for the slow response. Umm is it still laggy? Also the reason you both have the same external ip address is that your both behind one modem. Did you forward the right port for the server?

this might help
Step by step instructions on making a dedicated counter strike source server on a windows xp platform.
1, download hlds update tool from hear http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=getsteamnow&cc=GB
2,make a folder called HLServer in the root of c:\,
3, install the hlds update tool into the HLServer folder you just made,
4, type cmd into run and push return, in the cmd box type C:\HLServer then push return,
then type, hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir C:\HLServer ,into the cmd box and push return ,SIT BACK AND RELAX THIS MIGHT TAKE A WHILE TO UPDATE.when the cmd box says HLDS instillation up to date quit the cmd box.
5, go here (http://asylum-gameservers.com/cssource.php) and make your cfg, then click the get your cfg here tabb then file down and click the select all tab right click the cfg and copy to notepad name the notepad server.cfg and save it in the cstrike/cfg directory,
you can tweak the cfg in notepad if you want to.
6, Now go to the HLServer folder open it and right click on the srcds.exe and send to desktop.
7, right click the shortcut to srcds.exe and select properties, click the shortcut tab, remove what is in the target and type this "C:\HLServer\srcds.exe" -console -game cstrike -autoupdate +maxplayers 20 +map cs_italy .
PLEASE NOTE you need to replace the amount of players in the above with the amount of players your server can handle!
amount of players for your upload speed (a rough guide)
256 kbps 2-4 players,
384 kbps 4-8 players,
512 kbps 8-10 players,
768 kbps 12-18 players,
1,024kbps 20-24 players,
1,284 kbps 26-28 players,
1,512 kbps 30-32 players.
If you want more control over your server then go hear (http://www.mani-admin-plugin.com/) full instructions are available on the website.
And finally if you want to add more maps simply download them put them into your cstrike map folder and wright them into the mapcycle.txt and maplist.txt.
