New set up

Hey everyone!
So im new here and just wanted to share my enthusiasm for my new set up. after 2 years of looking and reading and learning and basicaly trying to figure out what I wanted as a set up I finally decided (obviously had to save up a good sum of $) and went forward!

The use of this comp is basicaly gonna be for WoW and nothing more then occasional facebooking and youtubeing.. I dont want to start downloading music or movies due to the certain risks... just wanted a sick gamer! haha

Now you guys might say this is overkill for WoW but I tried to future-proof it for a good while since I dont plan on buying another comp for a while...Im planning on keeping this set up for at least 3 years and possibly upgrading at that point if needed.

Sooooo.... here it is

Antec one hundred case
600W power supply
Intel Dh67GD 1155 max
Intel I7 2600K 3.4 Gh
Kingston 8G DDR3
Seadate 1T Sata3 7200rpm
ATI 6790 1GB PCI-E g-card
Win 7 64bit
TP-LINK wifi card
DVD LG 16x

instead of getting a monitor im gonna hook it up to a 32 inch with an hdmi should be PLENTY haha
:D
I would of liked to get an asus or gygabite motherboard but this seemed fine for my usage. I dont plan on overclocking. and wanted something I could upgrade easily enough later on in the systems life!

after having peices of sh*t my whole life and still being able to play and have fun...trucking through laggy raids and even having trouble installing certain patches

ANYWAYS obviously exited for this to be all together at home!

If you're sure you're never gonna overclock, you should've got the i7 2600. It's the same as the 2600k except the 2600k has unlocked multipliers for overclocking. But anyways, nice build!

well.....im sure im not going to for a while haha...
IF i do.. well then im gonna get more fans to be sure the thing doesnt overheat

either way it wont be for a while. just wanted a system thats upgradable instead of having to take out another couple $$$$ for another system

I also think that they only had the 2600k in stock... and im not very patient.. haha ive been on a crappy laptop that has trouble running internet for too long!

Thanks for the props too budd!

Nice build!:) Pretty much everything seems great, including the motherboard. Intel motherboards are almost always reliable, given the fact that Intel has quite a reputation to hold up. For what they do, they do it well.

IMO, the 2600k is definitely a good choice. It only costs about a dozen bucks more than the 2600, and you never know when you'll get the urge to OC. ;) The 2600k was really a breakthrough when it came out earlier this year: a 980x for a third of the price. It's epicness. :D

The only thing I would double-check is the brand of your power supply. If it's not a good brand, then it could blow up and take out the majority of your obviously treasured components. Not fun. A lot of the "wise men" here (I'm not one) are very passionate about their power supplies. They've experienced failure first-hand.

....but other than that, it's a seriously epic rig. :)

for the power supply i dont remember the brand name i have it on the bill at home but it was recommended.. i asked if i should go with more ie 650 or 700w and the guy helping me reasured me that this would do the trick.. when i get home ill post up the brand just to run it passed you to see! i think if i go with overclocking + add fans + add this + add that.. then i would definately go towards more POWER ! haha main thing with this build was to be sure i wouldnt under-do it. i rathered exeed the requirements i had by a little and semi-future proof the thing then be stuck with 1000$ comp in a year that doesnt run well... again the lagg and crashes is what drove me to go get a system such as this one

Thanks for the props once again cant wait to have her up n running...

I have a question though... I definately need an anti virus. I have AVG? i think thats it on my laptop it was free since a buddy went n got it im not sure where. but the lappy is a peice of crap and still runs better then my brothers 2000$ comp he baught a year ago? (riddle me that)haha

Either way i wanted to know if thats a good one to go with or if you have any suggestions?

All im really going to do with this system is WoW hotmail facebook youtube. not really gonna download any music or movies n whatnot to be absolutely sure not to get any crap in there.

Good Anti-Virus programs I know of are "Avast!" and "Kaspersky". Stay away from Norton 360, McAfee and Symantec like the plague. Those anti-virus programs are malicious software in my opinion. They slow your system down and make it feel like your system has malicious software.

If I were you I would also get another hard drive, download the free Linux Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit and install that as a secondary operating system on another hard drive. It is an operating system that is immune to 99.9% of malicious software out on the Internet.

Looks good, I'd consider the Antec Twelvehundred case though, it'd offer much better cooling and more room to work inside of the case.

for the linux...hows that work compared to windows? sorry if its a newb question just i never really ran anything else then windows and i used to have a mac but even there...just all around dunno what im talking about when it comes to the differences between those systems.

Linux is a great operating system for word processing and the Internet. It is awful for video games as video card drivers are quite limited with it. I dual-boot and really like using Linux Ubuntu Version 10.10 for the Internet as it is so resistant to malicious software. I do my gaming with Windows XP.
