New Smartphone? Looking at LG V10

I'm getting a bit tired of my LG Optimus G Pro. It still performs well enough and doesn't have any inherent problems, but I feel slightly ridiculous paying a monthly $15.42 for it when it was launched in Early 2013 and a brand new phone is only 5-8 more per month. I only got it a year ago, though. Notably my issues with it are battery life, screen brightness, software being stuck on KitKat 4.4.2, audio port is quiet, and the GPS is either very bad or flat faulty. And ya know, upgrading is fun. :D

My mom is still using a slider messaging phone that she got 5 years ago and is wanting a smartphone, primarily to interface with her car. I'm planning to give her my LG and use her long overdue upgrade to get a new phone for myself as we're on the same plan.

I'm looking for something that's around 5.5" or so. I really like the size of the display on the LG (5.5") I have now, and wouldn't really want anything a lot smaller. Battery life is also important and it being removable is pretty much a requirement in my book. My current phone can't even make it through the day most of the time and I generally charge it whenever I can to keep it topped off. SD storage is preferred, but not a dealbreaker if the onboard storage is sizable. Camera is of interest, but not a priority as anything new is way better than what I have now. Durability and longevity would be preferable as I'd like to get through the next 2.5 years of college on my next device. Price is also of course a concern.

As such, I've been pretty much set on the LG V10 from doing a bit of research. Removable batteries are getting less and less common it seems. I am open to suggestions of course, though. I'm also wondering if the V10 is worth the extra 4 per month over the G4, as their largely the same phone and the G4 just dropped in price with the launch of the V10.

I'm on AT&T and using their "Next" program assuming the lowest monthly rate possible per phone. Also Android is pretty much a given.

Thoughts?

I am still happy with my old note 4. but if I was buying a phone today, I would definitely consider the v10
I love the removable battery, but then I also like the s-pen on the note series and I actually use the heart rate sensor and stress tester feature on the note series. so I could very well wait for a note 6.
I think the added display on the top for the lg v10 is a bit of a gimmick, I would prefer a larger overall screen rather than what they did. I would consider the G4 over the V10 if it was a lot cheaper. Looks like the V10 has 4gb of ram vs the G4's 3gb.

The price difference is 19 per month for the G4 and 23 per month for the V10. It adds up over time (24 months), but there's enough things about the V10 that make me think it's worth it. The headphone jack on the V10 is supposed to be pretty good and loud, which is important since my M50's can't seem to be adequately driven by my phone.
