New system for general use & recreational server

I'm trying to build a new desktop to run a recreational web server (hosting my own site - I don't anticipate a lot of traffic).. but also having the ability to run Visual Studio, MS Expression Web and CS4 (Fireworks/Illustrator/Photoshop/Dreamweaver) occasionally.

Any opinions on this system I'm planning to build for the purposes mentioned would be appreciated!

Specifically:
- Will the components work together?
- Will the on-board GPU (Intel GMA3100) support the programs above?
- Are any of the components junk?

Motherboard: Asus P5KPL-CM --> http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=018459&cid=MBD.157
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz
RAM: OCZ SLI-Ready 4GB Dual Channel PC6400 DDR2 800MHz
HDD: Seagate ST31000528AS Barracuda 7200.12
Case & 500-watt PSU --> http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=016266&cid=CAS.664

Total: just under $600 CAD
Budget: $600 CAD max.

Thanks!

everything looks fine. The onboard video should be fine for 2D applications. SLI-ready memory is really just a marketing gimmick, any DDR2 800 is fine, maybe even DDR2 1066 to add a little more potential for overclocking in the future even though DDR2 800 will already allow a little overclocking. 4 gb might be a little skimpy I dunno, I'll have to leave that up to the other experiences web server peeps around here.

Also use newegg. They ship to canada. That IS where you are, right? I 'm assuming cuz your using canada computers.

it looks like people that are building intense webservers are looking at the 32-64gb of ram range but obviously you aren't running Google at home and dont expect a ton of traffic so 4gb may be ok.

Thanks for all your replies! The website is basically for experimental projects... will be using asp.net, vb.net, ajax and sql server... solely for personal use, or at most very low traffic stuff.

I've actually modified my specs a little... wonder if you guys give your opinions on it:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 (2.66Ghz 4MB L2 Cache 1333Mhz)
Mobo: Gigabtye GA-EG41M-ES2H (Micro ATX)

... the Gigabtye board has on-board GPU with DVI output (unlike the Asus I mentioned earlier), the Q9550 was a tad over budget so I've scaled back to the Q8400... and the rest of the components are the same:

RAM: OCZ SLI-Ready 4GB Dual Channel PC6400 DDR2 800MHz
HDD: Seagate ST31000528AS Barracuda 7200.12
Case & 500-watt PSU --> http://www.canadacomputers.com/index...66&cid=CAS.664

Thanks!

the Asus said it did have onboard video though

Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (Intel® GMA 3100)
Max. resolution:2048x1536X32bpp, Horizontal:127.5KHz Vertical:85Hz

btw are you gonna get alot of web traffic in Antartica?

What O/S are you planning on running on this. I've never looked into web servers but I'm guessing standard home Windows won't be up to it. Linux might be a good bet but then you won't be able to run windows apps.

I dont trust generic power supplies, get a ~500W name brand PSU, it's very much worth the additional cost.

I'm not sure if onboard is enough for your desired use, you can always buy a PCIe card later if it doesnt work well enough for you.

the Asus said it did have onboard video though

He said DVI, not VGA. The Asus didnt have a DVI connector

Thanks everyone for your opinions... I've decided to hold off on my new system for now... I just got 4 wisdom teeth out and pretty much can't do anything :( I'm planning to run Windows 7 'cause I'm going to be using Microsoft software.. and you're right about the PSU... I talked to a sales guy at Canada Computers and he said the 500W PSU they give is garbage... and no, I don't live in Antarctica :)
