New system install on SSD

Hi,

I have got Windows 7 and Windows 8 on separate partitions on HDD. They were both installed under IDE sata mode because back then I didnt know there were other options.

Now I would like to add a new SSD into the computer and install a fresh copy of Windows 8 on it while keeping the old systems functional at least for a while.

So how do I set my old Win7 and Win8 to be able to boot with AHCI or RAID sata option?

That board has 2 sata controllers. You can attach the ssd to one of the blue sata connectors and put it in ahci mode and then attach the original drives to the 2 white sata connectors and leave them in IDE mode. The blue are the intel connectors and the white is the gigabyte connector. You should see settings for both in the bios.

I see. So in such case I wont have to do any registry tweeking to make my old systems work in tandem with the new system on SSD?
