New system opinions

I play mostly WoW, but am making a new system for Age of Conan! Looking for your educated opinions :D

Right now I have...

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ MMX 3DNOW 1.8GHz

Video Card: e-GeForce 7900 GTX 512mb

Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard

Ram: Kingston Hyper X 1GBx2 (2GB total) PC3200

OS: Windows XP Pro 32bit

I run AoC at garbage speeds, around 10fps and below. WoW even lags at times on max settings.
I have planned an upgrade, and read as many threads as possible to educate this upgrade.
I am wanting to save money, so I figure I can re-use my 7900GTX for now.
My main concerns are: Will the 7900GTX produce good results still? and is my motherboard choice appropriate? I'm wanting max, or near max performance in AoC.

TO-BE PURCHASED SYSTEM

Processor: Core™2 Duo Processor E8400 3.00GHz w/ 6MB Cache

Motherboard: Force 780i SLI w/ DualDDR2 1200, 7.1 Audio, Dual GB Lan, 1394, PCI-E 2.0, 3-Way SLI

Ram: 4GB PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 4GB Edition Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 2GB)

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium x64 (64-bit) DVD w/ SP1, OEM, 1-Pack

I know the motherboard is SLI and I am running a single card. I chose this board because of its ability to make use of very fast DDR2 ram, its ability to upgrade to quad core someday when it is utilized better for gaming, and for when I replace my 7900GTX (depending on your feedback, maybe I will when i buy this system) with a better single card, or double card SLI setup.

I am using a 2 month old 600W OCZ PSU that I hope to use with both systems (If you recomend running 2-3 cards in SLI mode, will this support them?)

Thank you for reading

i dont know about the motherboard, check the manufactorors website. waht cards were you planning on useing? apart form that nice rig!!, enjoy it

DDR2-800 is all you need, or PC2-6400. Anything over is useless.

OCZ StealthXStream 600W? Or GameXStream 700W? If you're going to SLi or Tri-SLi, I'd go wiht the GameXStream 700W or better.

Ah okay, I will take the OCZ 750w gamestream advice, thank you.

As for choosing the pc6400 over the pc8500, why? Would the pc8500 not be better for overclocking the processor later on, and/or usable in the future? Just curious why this is the case.

DDR2-800 is the most commonly used RAM around. DDR2-800, in my experience, overclocks much better. Bad memory WILL limit the OC of the CPU, but if you have a quality motherboard (even a P31-DS3L like mine) you can adjuust RAM settings to lower/raise the speed.

I've gotten my RAM over 1000/1100MHz before. Ran fine!
