my bro plays online games, and i dont have a computer that is even worth trying any good games on.

i have a 42" sharp tv in my bedroom that i would like to use as a monitor, is there a graphics card that would look good on here?

ive been looking around on here at some components, and seeing what is recommended the most, but im at a loss of what is the best combo

can i get some help on the best setup for me

it will be mainly used for COD4, warhammer, and maybe WOW.

Well your big screen will either be 720p or 1080p which means a resolution of either 1280x720 (at max) or 1920x1080 (at max), plasmas generally have a lower resolution than LCD TVs. It would be best to get a card that supports DVI, many LCD TVs have DVI ports and this would result in better quality than a VGA connection. Just look at what your TV supports and it should be fine. A TV is no different than a monitor as far as your computer is concerned.

the tv supports 780p and 1080p, its also an LCD

my tv has these video inputs
component
composite
hdmi
comp monitor

also, my budget is around 1g for everything.

when you say "comp monitor" this could either be DVI or VGA, DVI will most likely be a white connector while VGA is a blue one.
Anyways, aside from games, is there anything else you do with your computer or need from it?
Examples:

1. need a lot of HDD space for videos or backups?
2. any video editing or CAD?
3. Do you want a blu-ray player?
4. do you have a surround sound system that you want to hook up?

the tv has a blue VGA connector

i will be getting into master-cam(CNC programming software)
gaming(i want to make shure i have a good video card)
use it to play dvd's(i have a PS3 for blue-ray)
some internet use
i plan to get a logitec surround sound system, nothing too much
i really not shure how big a a HDD i will need, i guess the bigger the better.

i could spend up to 1,500.
but would like to spend 1,000 or so

i just want to make shure the system is good

I assume you are willing to build the computer since you were looking at components so here goes:

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068
its an elegant case that would fit nicely next to an HDTV.

CPU: Intel E8400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037
great dual-core CPU

Hard Drive: Seagate 500GB Barracuda 32MB cache
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148288
awesome drive for the price.

RAM: G Skill 4GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231148
4 GB of ram is basically standard considering how cheap RAM is now.

PSU: Antec 650 Watt PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371015
three 12V rails. I'm a sucker for Antec PSU, they are among the best.

CD/DVD Drive: Lite-on drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106228
Lite-On makes good drives, sometimes they are a bit loud though.

Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3L
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128337
I've used many gigabyte boards and they are all good.

Gfx card: nVidia GTX 260
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133229

DVI converter:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814999201
since your TV dosn't support DVI

on newegg, my total price is about $750 USD after shipping. This leaves room to buy Windows XP or Vista (Vista is not a bad choice, it is a very good OS despite what some people say) and any other little things you might wan to add to it.

There is no real need to spend $1000 because the graphics cards that are $500 now will be much cheaper in no time and it is more financially efficient to get one that is already at a decent price, unless you really think you want to spend that much.
If you still want the extra power, go for the 4870 X2

that GPU comes with a DVI to VGA adapter, so there is no point adding it to your shopping cart. but apart from that yeah that would be a nice build :)

1. 32 bit vista is meant for 32 CPU's, 64 bit is for 64 bit CPU's, for that E8400 i would go for 64 bit vista.

2. different people will say different things, i just use the sound card built onto my motherboard, i dont see the advantage in buying a sound card when the onboard does a good job

3. not that i can see other then a keyboard and mouse

4. this is just me but i wouldn't get an ATI GPU, nothing against AMD i just like nVidia more but ATI prob dont make bad GPU's

5. SLI is scalable link interface. it's nVidia's way of linking two GPU's together to increase rendering performance, (give you better graphics) ATI have crossfire which is the same thing.

the build above links will make a great system and you wouldn't be disappointed with it. just dont get the DVI to VGA adapter as the GTX260 comes with 1.

1.) 64-bit can use up to 100+ Gigs of Ram 32-bit can only use about 3.2 Gigs

2.) Fatal1ty pro, Asus Xonar DX or D2X You do if you plan to use anything but 2.0 stereo speaker and expect anything but mediocre results.

3.) Thermal greese, cpu fan, speakers (if you want them)

4.) Yep, it is the direct competetor to the nVidia 260.(Tied in perform .. maybe a slight ahead) ---Dude im an nVidia fanboy too but you have to give truthful advice for this to be a useful forum... Ati rulz the roost right now. they have the price and the high-end performance. ITs their part of the cycle.

5.) SLI is when you use two of the same nVidia cards and connect them using a SCALABLE LINK INTERFACE so that they act as one really powerful video card.

ok so i want 64bit vista,
but what version? there are like 300 diff variations lol

i also think im going to go with this PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148035

or this one

im a led' whore

this case

acrtic silver 5 -thermal paste

lol what the hell you just spammed half of what i said.

id go for the seconds PSU, the case and CPU cooler look good :)

Just get Vista Home Premium, Ultimate isn't worth the cost and Home Basic isn't a justifiable upgrade over XP. Aero is really nice because its GPU rendered so when something freezes, it doesn't get "imprinted" onto the screen.
