New to the forums, want advice on what to look for in prebuilt PCs.

No, a surge protector isn't necessary when building it. I built mine, wearing socks, on carpet, with no ESD strap, and no surge protector, and my computer's fine. Am I advising you do that? No of course not... In retrospect that was stupid, and I'm lucky I didn't destroy any parts.

Wear shoes, regularly ground yourself by touching a metal part of your case, like a said a screw attached to your case will be fine. You have nothing to worry about as long as you regularly ground yourself. An ESD strap is a plus, not a necessity.

Also, could any other users weigh in on my critique of Linkin's build? Thanks :D

Honestly just follow all the advice here and you'll be fine. Yes, ESD can destroy your parts but so long as you take precautions then you'll be fine.
