Well i thought i was a computer wiz helping my friends boost performance by defraging the C drive, installing ram,and installing pci cards. obviously i m a newbie i know a little. Recently i recieved a laptop from someone who works at Nextel and got rid of it. to be precise it is a Toshiba Portege 7140 CT, i know these are VERY picky with ram, considering it goes 320mb max. Anyway, the os it is running 2000 professional. and whenever i start it up it has this little window saying this is a Nextel computer blah blah. so i wanted it to go strait to desktop i did a few tweaks for it to automatically log on but that thing still pops up then i have to hit enter. how can i remove/disable this

Does it appear after it begins to load windows or does it appear during the boot sequence?

If its after windows begins to load then try formatting the hard drive if you have nothing of interest on there. Reinstall the OS from scratch and you should be good to go

If it is in the boot sequence it will either be a permanent chip on a bespoke motherboard, in which case your screwed and stuck with it, or it will be a part of the BIOS, this is more likely... Find out if the manufacturer supplies BIOS updates of flash files, if they do, re-flash the BIOS with one that doesn't have "nextels" logo built on top of it

it says like preparing connections and what not then that window pops up you hit ok and i have tweak to make me automatically log on to administrator(me)

yeh, so it is inside windows... there may be something as simple as an obvious application, say, in control panel under Add/Remove Programs. Of course that would be far too easy though, it will most likely be a whole bunch of registry entries controlling it all.

So its up to you really, formatting and reinstalling the OS would 100% definitely get rid of the annoying screen, and also clear out any rubbish that's lying around on there, but it depends on how readily you can get hold of a new OS...?
