Hi guys,

I just installed ubuntu 9.04 on one of my spare computers to have a little test. So far I like it a lot, but there are no codecs to run the videos or music. Is there a way to install these codecs? or a website that I can download it?

how do you transfer the files to ubuntu? isnt there a offline version for the codecs?

No, the software repositories are all handled with on-line downloads. You could install a modem in the Ubuntu machine. I'm not sure if you can use the repositories from a Windows machine since I've never tried it. It probably can be done. However, it would pay you to put any Linux machine on line.

Thanks for letting me know, ill try and get this second computer connected to the internet and download them.

Oh and one more question if i download all the software updates from the internet, is it possible to backup the software and use it to install on another linux computer?

You'd need to connect the computers to the web to do it. You could take an image of the whole computer though.

And I agree, you need the web to make linux good!
