I got a new computer last summer that doesn't have HDMI, so i borrowed a VGA cable from a friend but today he wanted it back so i bought a new one.

The problem is that i used to be able to use 1600x1050 and 1360x768 as resolution but now i can only get to 1280x1024 and i don't know why :/

I have another computer plugged into the HDMI slot that goes to 1768x992.

Anyone who knows what the problem might be?

Limited Label - 23" Latona 23FHD TV Screen

I don't see how that matters tho as i'm using the exact same TV Screen as before but now i can't use resolutions higher than the ones mentioned earlier.

Because if it was a monitor with a resolution of 1280x1024 then it wasn't that you were previously running at the resolution stated you were instead running at the max resolution but had the option to go higher, though the hardware would not support it.

As the display can support it that isn't the case. Do you have another spare cable you can try or can you plug the display into the other port to try instead?

I would think it very strange that a VGA cable would cause the fault to be honest, they are just about all the same, with the exception of quality, but that won't affect the maximum resolutions that are available

Yes i tried the previous cable(my friends cable) and again now my resolution is 1680x1050 which seems to be the max resolution.

The wierd thing is that when i plug the other cable(the one i bought yesterday) in i get new resolution options like 1600x1200 and 1400x900 instead of the previous 1680x1050 and 1360x768.

I only have 1 VGA port on the PC/TV.
