New Video Card?

I'm looking at upgrading my video card sometime in the near future. I currently have an ATi Radeon 5770 HD. I was told it's a little outdated, and was hoping someone could show me a good upgrade for a good price. Not looking to spend an arm or a leg, just a decent fit.

How much are you looking to spend? Theres not much you can get to better it without spending an arm and a leg.

I mean you could upgrade to a 6850/6870. but even thats going to cost £120 minimum, and tbh its money better saved for a better card.

Your 5770 is pretty good, its not the best but far from the worst, i would really only upgrade to something worthwhile like a gtx 560ti/hd6950.

Without spending like £200 your really not going to see huge amount of a performance upgrade.

Or wait for the gtx 600 series and ati 7000 series.

I wouldn't mind spending up to about 150, but i'm not sure if that will give me much more.

What will be the purpose of upgrading?... are you trying to max out certain games? Often times if you can tell us what type of games you are playing, we can tell you what cards will max those games.

There are several different ways you can upgrade your card now, but depending on what you are trying to play, a small upgrade may be pointless.

I play WoW (which isn't very graphic intensive until you get into high populated areas), and wanting to play Swtor when it releases. I mean I understand some lag, but I want little to no lag for those games (from the video cards side of things).

Im kinda suprised that you are getting major lag in WoW on your setup... Even with the older card.

The 560ti as well as the 570 are good cards for WoW.

I did some reasearch a while back, and for the money Vs. FPS, the gtx570 was just about tops for WoW. I get over 100fps almost always on Ultra)

As far as for the SWTOR game, I havent tried it yet to know how it is preforming in Beta.

** Edit** the gtx570 nor the 560ti will be in your budget range.... might be worth waiting and putting a few dollars with it to get the 560ti.

See that's just it, I don't get anything over 60. In major cities on ultra it does lag OCCASIONALLY, which still bothers me haha. But mostly it doesn't lag outside of that. But how do you get 100fps?! Everyone tells me that and I don't think I have ever gotten over 60fps.. Does it have something to do with overclocking?

Wow maxes at 60 fps because of your refresh rate on your monitor. It is because of the V-sync running which matches your Max FPS to your refresh rate of your monitor. You can disable this in the settings but your quality may go down some. (Although I could not tell a difference) It is called V-sync within the settings menu. You can also possibly disable V-sync in you video card settings as well.

Hope this helps!

Ahhhh, so it boils down to the monitor eh? That would explain it. Got any monitor suggestions?

Well, it does boil down to the refresh rate on your monitor but other than going to lesser resolution, you really would not see a FPS increase.

FPS is more of a bragging type thing that really doesnt matter as much as we think. The human eye will process anything above 25 FPS as fluid motion. Once something is fluid, our eyes really cant tell much of a difference. And once things become too fast moving, our eyes will read what they see as blurry.

What you can do is disable the V-sync in WoW and see how your FPS look then. By upgrading monitors, you really will not gain FPS unless you went to a 120 hrtz refresh rated monitor.

If you want to achieve less lag in cities, then upgrade your GPU.

I agree with most from exo, although i would say unless your going to spend on a 560|TI/570 6950/6970 then you may as well stick with your 5770.

i presume your 150 budget is in $$$ so that would maybe allow a hd 6850, im not sure on prices across the pond. Its nto a massive upgrade over a 5770.

As for the 5770 being outdated i dont think it is tbh, iirc, the 6770 is a rebadged 5770 more or less so your 5770 is hardly outdated.

I used to game on a 8800gts then a 3870x2...they are outdated lol.

Definately wait to upgrade, you wont see a large enough boost to warrant spending money.

Yeah, I may not have gotten my point across very well, but this is what I believe also.. Wait and put a few dollars with what you got and get a better card.

I think what their trying to say is your bang for your buck ratio over your 5770 right now with the 6850...wouldnt be a ton, id save more and buy a better card...only card im thinking is the 560Ti with my setup...but my 460 does things nicely, id say your 5770 would be pretty similar performing in wow as the 460...only problem i have in wow is seeing stuff over the particle effects when their turned up <:)
