I have a C2D but I don't understand what they are. Whats the "2" and why are core 2 duos so much nicer than just your average dual core?

No, it's not that, the Duo means dual-core, Quad means 4 cores. It is given the name 2 after the first Core series got dropped into laptops and aren't as efficient. The reason they are nicer is b/c they have a newer architecture the Core architecture and it has enabled to be the most efficient and fastest chip series yet.

It's called the Core "2" Duo and Core "2" Quad because the original was the Core Duo, so the desktop processors are the second generation.

as intelcrazy stated above, the reason they are so much better is two-fold. first off the new architecture (the way the circuits are designed) is much faster, requiring less clocks (cycles of the CPU) to get something done. this means the CPU uses less power, which means less heat, which means they can up the front side bus speed (speed at which the CPU 'talks' to the northbridge), which means an overall performance gain. when you see a core2duo CPU with a speed of 2.13 ghz, it will blow a pentium4 3.0Ghz out of the water, even though it has a lower speed.

so wait a min, then why is the Core 2 Quad called that.. this is the first quad they made is it not?.. shouldnt it just be Core Quad.. or Quad Core?..

Whaa? Now I done promised myself i weren't to do this but.. You done brought this on yourself.

so.. I fell like when I see one processor its ONE PROCESSOR.. I would feel better about having two phisical processor than one dual core.. I could rub them all over my body then.. is one dual core reall the same as having two phisical processors?

For the most part they are the same, even faster actually if you're talking about true multi-cored CPU's.

For instance, the Pentium D is basically two Pentium 4 cores combined on one processor, and the quad cores are two Core 2 Duo's.
