Newbie here .. could use help

Have an XPS m1330. T8100 .. 2 GB RAM Win7 64 bit but can reinstall to 32 bit. 965 express chipset family. Bios A15

I read that if I drop to win 7 32 and increase my ram to 4 mb, it will speed things up . true or not for you experts out there. Tks
 
Not true at all, 32 bit windows can only utilize a maximum of around 3gb, so you would have 1gb of useless memory, whoever told you that does not even have a basic knowledge of computers.

Thanks, just read it on the internet doing a search. Obviously did not trust and is why I am here.

What would you suggest?

Just to date myself, I was the the one everyone came to in the early 90's. My knowledge has deteriorated to almost nothing over those years :) Thks again for any suggestions.

Thanks, will that speed things up? Crucial.com says I can go to 8 but others say I can't. Will that, and/or a SSD help with speed?
 
An ssd certainly would help speed things up, however as you have a laptop storage space maybe an issue, as ssd`s do not come in really big sizes, the most common size for most people is around 120gb.

You will never regret on buying an SSD, I would say... without any spesific data that it is 2 or 3 times faster than a normal 7200 RPM HDD. Really fast is what I am saying :P

with 4 GB of RAM and an SSD you shouldn't have any problems with speed. Since RAM is so cheap today, you could buy 6 or 8 GB of RAM too be prepeard for what mite come later on. figure you have any slots left for it, and youre motherboard can handle that mutch.
