Newbie here

the card you have now recomends atleast a 300watt power supply,if you ever replace it, i would get atleast a 500watt or more of a good brand.

A pci video card is fine,some people have a pci,some have a agp,some have a pci-e

Im thinking something is not hooked up corectly or a dead motherboard, have you tryed to unhook the floppy and cdrom drive and anything else that has a light that stays on.

Ok guys, haven't had much time in the last couple days to fool with this project. I'm going to look around and see if I can locate me a bigger power supply that I can try. Mine has a four prong plug that plugs into the middle of the board. Two black wires and two yellow. What's this called? I've noticed that all power supplies don't have this plug.

OK, last night I changed the power supply and the results were the same. Could the CPU be bad? It's the only other component thats left that is common with the other set up.

the four prong plug = atx power supply with P4 plug

and if i get it right, you are using a socket 478 P4,you can try using a another one, there not much money and many people have them laying around.

i never had a cpu go bad,but hey you can give it a try,i stil think its something else

Cabin, it may be something else but i've swapped everything I know to swap. I think lightening got this thing. I had it plugged into the wall and just wasn't thinking. If I can't get it up and running soon I'll just buy a new one. What else could it be? I don't have any drives hooked up. It's just the mother board, one memory card and a graphics card. Thats all thats hooked up.

Well, changed the CPU and still.....nothing. I've checked the wiring forty seven thousand times and everything looks to be hooked up correct. The only thing left is the RAM. I did change it but with an old one that has been in a ziplock bag in my lunchbox for about two years. I know for a fact that a ziplock bag can produce a static charge. (something about a oxygen/acetelyne bomb in a gallon bag prematurally going off while holding the zipper part in your hands tends to burn a memory into your brain cells) My ears are still ringing. What do you guys think? Change it or not?

if you can afford it since this isnt a good computer by any means anyway go to walmart and buy the cheapest desktop you can get... would prob save yourself some money instead of buying a new power supply and ram or motherboard or whatever you end up buying while you try to figure out whats wrong with it

So on a scale od 1 to 10 rank this computer. I will be using it for corel draw and co-cut.
I own a screen printing and vinyl cutting buisness and need a good computer for that. Recomend me a tower for under $400.00.

-3 in my opinion.

Is the frustration worth it to you? If you can afford buying a computer perhaps buy components from Tiger direct or micro center? The system you have is really too old to keep in my opinion. You can sometimes find entire systems on Newegg Shell shocker for less than $300, depends on how much a hurry you are in.
