newbie memory question

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm kinda paranoid about such things. I'm going to order some memory for my build, which is an Athlon II Propus 640, AM3 socket processor, which will go on a DDR3 board with a 2600mhz FSB.


Now, the memory I'm looking at says it is designed for the AMD Phenom II, Intel i3, i5 and i7. But I assume it will work with my Athlon II as well, as long as the board is the proper configuration??

one further query - I'm planning on DDR3 1333, would I gain much by going to 1600?

Have no idea what memory your talking about, or the motherboard.

As far as 1333 or 1600. Dont know where you live, be here/US for the price difference I would go with 1600.

Well yeah in a way. Athlon II and Phenom II AM3, technically the memory controller supports up to DDR3 1333, but thats just bacause of JEDEC standards. Alot of AM3 boards support up to 1866 or 2000 and include a divider for it.

That one supports up to 1600 and 1800.

Do you need onboard video, if not this is a better deal. Plus it will do Crossfire.

I don't think I'm really getting my question across, it's not really mobo specific. I want to know if I am looking for DDR3 1333 desktop memory, will any DDR3 1333 desktop memory work, or are there different kinds of those specific types of memory?

Most any DDR3 1333 will work. The lower timing and voltage the better.

that makes me think I should go ahead and order the G.Skill ripjaws memory, there were several comments in the reviews mentioning that it ran great at 1.5v. Plus it has the lifetime warranty. I am also checking out the corsair memory because it has a good rep too, any comments are welcome. thanks!
