Newbie Question About RAM

I've been playing on and inside computers since I was 10 but never really bought parts or changed anything from stock. I recently got some RAM for a desktop of mine. My issue is when I insert both RAM sticks nothing shows up upon boot, BUT when I add one it says RAM changed press F1 for boot. The computer is a Dell T3400 Workstation with 4 slots. It is currently running TWO 1GB RAM sticks (That came stock) and I am adding two 512MB (I had extra). I tried both single sticks on their own and they both work fine but the issue is when I put both of them in the two empty slots. I am looking to see if anyone knows the solution to my issue, Thanks.

Most likely 2 ram sticks aren't playing well together. I've got a set of ram that will do the same thing. Works fine separately but computer won't post when used at the same time.
