Hello

I need to upgrade my processor on my desktop and have no idea how to start ?

I found a website that scans your pc and tells you exactly what is the maximum upgrade that you can perform on you system http://powerleap.com/

1. should I trust them and buy this chip for $70+ ?

3. can I buy it cheaper somewhere else online or in a store ?

That computer is sooo old... Pentium 3 hasn't been around for like 10 or so years. None of those CPUs is really worth it... also, it's not guaranteed that your motherboard even supports an upgrade. What motherboard do you currently have? If you don't know, get CPU-Z, it's a free utility that will tell you lots of useful stuff about your CPU, MOBO and RAM. Also, the chip definitely ain't worth $70 bucks... $20 is a more reasonable price. Yes, assuming that the chip does work, you will see a performance increase, but again,IMO it's not worth it at those prices and you should just get yourself a new computer altogether.

I actually dont have the time or experince to build a new one
Also if the performance increase is decent enough I would rather pay $20 or 70$ instead of paying $400 or more for a new system, I am broke :o

Dont bother wasting money on that. It will barely make your PC faster. Im guessing you use your PC for web access and such? Save the money and just upgrade to a newer socket. It took me about an hour to assemble my first PC so dont say you dont have the time :P. DO NOT BUY anything for that PC, it will be garbage no matter what. Just my opinion. A good surfing PC nowadays is $200ish dollars. Make it upgradeable and it will last you until they start putting them in our heads for quicker access :).
