newegg listed product as "recertified"

if newegg lists a card as "recertified" and it is cut below 50% or so of normal price... is that another way of saying refurbished?
 
Sort of. I believe recertified can either be repaired (as in refurbished), or simply being an item that was returned for whatever other reason. (Buyer simply didn't like it/incompatible)
 
You guessed it, I have bought a few referbs from them and have not had any problems. Most of the time when things are sent back its USER error not product failure. Yes sometimes there is something wrong with the product but most of the time its the user
 
Refurbished generally means returned to the manufacturer and received repairs.
Recertified generally means returned to the manufacturer but no repairs were needed and the product was deemed to still be in like new condition
 
Newegg only has two catagories, Refurbished, which is either return or repair, and Open Box, which was just a tested item for quality control.
 
I've bought open box without any issues, and my friend bought a recertified 7800GT and it works great with no problems.
 
The only problem is that recertified you aren't guaranteed to get all of the accessories, and I think with open box, you definitely only get the main item. Kind of an issue with motherboards and not having the I/O shield.

The chances are you wont get everything, and Newegg tells you that, but sometimes you do. When I got my x850PRO Open Box it came with all the cables, manuals, box, and plastic packaging.
 
if you call them, they will tell you exactly what was wrong with it

they're not individual bad parts, it's usually a buy-out of an entire fleet of b-stock merchandise that had a problem from the factory

for example, a few months back they had beautiful NEC monitors. 19" lcd 5:4 monitors with 400 candlepower, 4ms response time, 1600:1 contrast ratio, basically, awesome monitors :)

They were selling them for $199 (retailed at over $500) i called them up, asked what was wrong with them, they told me they'd have to find out for me.

Called me back a few minutes later, and told me the only thing wrong with them was that they were originally shipped with faulty power supply boxes............. AS IN bad power cables.........

So it's not always bad. Give them a call, and they'll tell you what the scoop is.
