Don't get the QX6850, thats becoming pretty old. I would invest in one of the newer 45nm quads when they come out.

Since they aren't out I can't say with certainty because there may be a high demand.

IMO, the Intel Extreme series of processors are not worth the money unless you are a serious overclocker. For instance, I was able to get my Q6600 to 3.85GHz (Yes I say that a lot, lol), and a lot of people with the QX6850 can only get to around 4.0-4.2GHz. My point is, theres really no reason to spend $800-$1000 more to get the extreme series when the mid-ranged version will get close results.

didnt want to overclock i just want a beast without overclocking and the capabilty to overclock if i ever feel the need too...

i was looking at the amd quad but it doesnt appeel to me, think i was hoping that there quad core would wipe the floor with intels offerings but it was not so...

Every core 2 extreme has the ability to overclock. It clearly states that he doesnt want to overclock at the moment, hence why I wouldn't mention overclocking.

But if he ever wants to hes got a great overclocker thats actually out :P

Yeah, time to get back on topic.

The entire purpose of the Extreme series is that they have unlocked multipliers, if you do not plan to overclock then get the non-extreme version. Otherwise you are wasting several hundred dollars.

yes i know that but im saying that i would like the option too...

i want a quadcore that is running nearly 3ghz per core with the ability to overclock in future
