nForce i790 Ultra Compatibility

Alright, I just built my first computer and I have a couple of quick questions.

This is the rig:

-EVGA nForce i790 Ultra
-BFG Tech 800W ATX 12V 2.2 and EPS 12V 2.91 Power Supply
-EVGA GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
-Patriot Viper 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache
-Windows Vista Premium x64 (not installed yet)

*pre-power supply blow - Windows Pro. XP x64
*pre-power supply blow - Intel Due Core E6550

Ok, I was having problems with loading programs. Once the program loaded it was smooth; games were smooth and other software ran smooth once loaded. May or May-not be related, but my power supply blew 2 months in.

First question: Was it the bad OS? (Should have research the OS)

Second: Was it do to incompatible CPU or memory?

I research the compatibility for the mobo more in depth, and found that the CPU (E6550) and the Memory (Patriot Viper) were not compatible with the mobo. At least they weren’t on the compatible chart. I bought a new CPU because the price was good, but does it make a difference about the memory? Will I see problems because the memory wasn’t on the capability chart?

I figured it out. I most of had a daaah moment. Hard Drive daaah

I also did some research, and since the mobo is new, a lot of the products haven't been tested there for the can be claimed as compatible.
