I got this for an early Christmas gift from my dad, never tied installing it until sometime on Christmas once I was home at mom's.

Anyway, it's not installing as I hoped...

Local Area Connection 3?
As far as I know, my computer is working on Local Area Connection 2...

Help. Please?

I had to deal with crap when I set up my adapter a couple months ago. It starts a new LAN connection to piggyback off the current connection.

You can try,

Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network connections -> Find your main connection, right click, properties -> Click the "Sharing" (or advanced) tab, and check both the ICS boxes.

Turning off the firewall if it's software (including windows), router: try connecting directly to the intrenets. Regardless of how you get it to work, you may need to create a couple new rules in the firewall, or forward a couple ports.

Make sure to completely uninstall whatever was installed from the cd before trying this. You have to do it each and every time, or the error will never go away. This is a nasty error, I had to try about a dozen things to get it to work, i've forgotten most of what I did... I got it to work in the end though.

I right clicked, and before going to properties I noticed something "Bridge Connections". Would that work?

As far as I know, nothing on the disk actually installed, since it just stops and gives me that error, each time.

I went to properties and then to advanced... got something like...
"Windows cannot display the properties of this connection. The (WMI) information might be corrupted." yadda yadda.
Stuff about System Restore...

Right click on My Computer pick Manage. Open Services and Applications, click on Services. Find DHCP Client in the services list on the right. Does it say it is started?

Ok. You don't want to bridge the conenctions. When you did this:
Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network connections -> Find your main connection, right click, properties -> Click the "Sharing" (or advanced) tab, and check both the ICS boxes.
Are you sure you picked the correct connection? If it's not working try doing it for one of the other connections. Also, you just need the 1st sharing box checked.

My main connection is Local Area Connection 2... since that's the only one there, unless the USB wi-fi ins plugged in, then LAC 3 is up there.

But, as stated before, I can't really go into advanced...
Here, I'll get a screen shot

Blah... I'm just worried about losing all my files again.

I hate that.
I'll cry if it happens.

I won't do it for now... I have a bigger issue at the moment than this. I hate computers.

Lol, you won't lose your files, I've done it like a dozen times.

Well you know what to do if you ever want to get online with the ds and wii, either this, or you can get a wireless router, works just like the usb adapter. ;)

Alright, I'm just now visiting that link now that things have finally calmed down from Christmas and the break off school.

I'll let you know how it works out.
I'll hold you on your word about the file thing. =]

I just confused myself... so you're saying I need the disk and the XP key to do th-- no, I think I'll just leave it since I'm too worried of completely screwing up.

"You may lose data or program settings after reinstalling, repairing, or upgrading Windows XP"

Besides.. that scared me away..

"Data loss occurs after you reinstall, repair, or upgrade Windows XP"

And that.

Yeah, you would need the cd and key.

Alright, alright, but I'm telling you you don't lose your stuff when you perform a repair install, it only reinstalls the windows files to the windows folder. Hence "repair" install and not format and reinstall. I've had to run it twice in an evening once, to get rid of a pesky problem which turned out to be unrelated. And I didn't lose anything. But I won't harp on it, continue to run on a broken Windows! :p

Lmao... I might try after school. Gotta find the CD and stuff again. I think they're up in my room.

And... when is windows not broken in some way? >>;
