No boot - Gateway laptop (SOLVED : 4 real this time)

Folks' gateway laptop only gets to gateway logo then turns off no matter what we try. Sometimes, randomly, it will work but very rarely. It gets stuck in infinite boot cycle and tapping esc, f2, etc don't help since it will still restart.

We've tried the following power configurations :

Cord only
Battery only
Cord + battery

Nothing works :( Please help us out, thanks!

Specs :

MODEL No : PEW91
OS : Windows 7

Sometimes a failing hard drive will cause this issue. Remove it and see if you can get to the bios.

Well, its either overheating and shutting down or you have a hardware issue somewhere. After you've had it off for some time and turn it back on, how long does it last before it shuts off?

Okay update : BOOTS EVERYTIME BABY! - BUT NEW ISSUE

I went Frankenstein on it and did almost total disassemble. Doing so took a fat wad of dust out of the piece that joins the fan and external vent, that seems to have been the issue all along. Unfortunately I never opened up lappys before and I broke a couple of the cable latches. One goes to the usbs on the right, they no longer work ......... The other is for the power up switch, it won't work if I just press it either. I have to put pressure on the cable (accessible with keyboard removed) then push the button for it to go. I'm trying electrical tape to replace the latches but so far no luck. Any suggestions?

Eh I was able to jerry rig the cables with plastic and electrical tape, got the usb, power and everything else i messed up working again. Thanks to all who replied :)
