No boot, no beep, no power

so I've had this build for a couple years now with minor hiccups but sunday after a windows update restart I lost video. the comp wouldnt even boot into bios. I've disconnected everything leaving only CPU and PS, with fans and when I power it up all fans become active but I get no beep at all and I have tried a newer working PS and same result. Now today 12/26/12 I've found that after I try turning it on then powering back down, if I attempt to power it back up nada! is this failed PS or Mobo? if i unplug and plug back in i can repower it up.
I've already done many searches on this and concluded a dead mobo but this new issue seems interesting.
I've already got a backup build on my wishlist but looking for info on what my options are cause I'd rather not have to build a whole new setup. any other suggestions or tips other than, "just build a new one" would be appreciated.

for reference with what I'm working with:
ultra 500W PS
MSI k9a2 cf mobo
athlon 64 x2 5200+

Yeah if you've tried a different PSU and it's still not working, then it's probably the motherboard. Could also be the processor. RAM issues would cause beeping and you've ruled everything else out.

If you get no post beep, however you do get power try the following.

1. Clean and reseat the memory. Try to power back on

2. With the power off, pull bios battery out and short out the battery pins on the motherboard for 10 - 20 seconds. Try to power back on

3. A lot of motherboards have an undocumented 'reset' which has worked for me a few times. Power the machine down, pull the cpu out of the motherboard. Power the machine on with no cpu for about a minute. Power it down and reinsert the cpu and try again.

If all that doesn't work I would be leaning towards motherboard.

Yea, I've pretty much done all that so it sounds like a dead motherboard. Guess I'll start posting comparisons for my new build, thanks for the replies

If I were to just purchase new ram/cpu/mobo/ps would I be able to use my currnt win xp install on my hd without a fresh install?
