Try contacting your computer manufacturer. Other than that I don't think there's anything else you can do, Microsoft isn't very flexible with that kind of stuff. There could be some way of doing it that I'm missing, I haven't had a whole lot of experience with legit versions of xp....

My bro had a sony pc with no install disc. I was able to help him reinstall the windows by pussing the F10 or F11 key when the window is restarting. I am not sure what computer you have but you can give it a try. I don't know if you can reinstalled it if you reformate the hardrive. I don't think you can reformate your masterdrive. it is a different story if you have two.

good luck

thanks platinum :P haha
yeah my computer manufacturer went out of buissness bmq haha good sign huh? lol all i really need is a xp home cd hmm maybe staples would give me one bc i bought it there... still got my serial code..

hmm thanks ANNR ill give that a try :)

do you have the I386 folder on you root drive? if so, all you need it in there, if not, time to spend money...

most computer that dont come with the actual xp disc your only way is to use the restore disc for the computer they're pretty much all customized by the maker with loads of useless software.

If you can find your cd key, and some other proof that you have xp, like the serial number or certificate code, you might be able to go to the microsoft website, input that information, and get a cd. I know you can do that and get a windows 64 bit pro, but that would mean a different os, and your old keys would no longer be good.

really? i didnt know you could do that! i have a 64 bit system :)
maybe ill do that, thanks for the info!

thats is a good point. ill look into that. but if i cant get a XPhome CD from them i would rather a XP64 CD so that if anything happens at least ill have an OS maybe minus some drivers ;)

Yeah, well I think the XP 64 bit edition is the same as regular XP. There was a thread about this earlier. You can check the Microsoft website for more info., but I do know, in order to trade in for XP 64 pro, you first have to have xp pro, and the offer expires on July 30th.

you can get a full (not upgrade) version of XP Pro on ebay for $70. Computer manufacturers usually include a restore cd instead of the windows cd because they install a bunch of crap like aol, hotmail, ect, which they pay the computer company to put on. I find it weird that you never got a restore cd though. where did you get your computer from?
