im wanting 2 put 2000, on my gateway solo, but it has no cd-rom drive? how can i do this? is it possible? or soi have 2 buy a external cd-rom drive? any help? thanks.

Does your comp have usb ports? If so, and you have a cd ripping tool like alcohol 120 or Daemon tools then you can just rip the cd, transfer the image over to your laptop via flash stick or something, then mount the image to a virtual drive cd-rom drive and install from the newly created virtual cd-drive which will be located in your My Computer directory.

Hope that made sense.

woow, thats a little complicated 4 me lol, maybe i'll just have 2 save up 4 a external cd-rom drive, but do i need a cd 2 install the external?

You might be able to get one dirt cheap at a used computer hardware/software store(if you have one local), or on ebay. You shouldn't need any cd to install it, usually windows can detect and install the driver it needs automatically.

Does this laptop have Firewire, but not a CD drive? If it has only a floppy, I doubt it can boot from FW. Because that object happens to be firewire, and not a whole lot of devices except macs boot from Firewire. Can't you just get a laptop drive and put in there? I can't figure out why you'd want an external drive over internal. Additionally, you can boot from the 4 floppies, then install Windows over the network.
