well LCDs are much lighter, MUCH thinner, use less power, usually pretty bright, and sharper than CRTs. A 21" CRTs viewable area is around 19"-20". You can get a 19 or 20" LCD for less than $300 and ive seen 19" LCDs for less than $200.
To get a LCD Moniter with the Same viewbable size and resalutions as that 99$ one (the 19.8 viewable one) will cost over 300$ Also, IMO its not even worth it to get a LCD if you dont get one with a good contrast ratio and, if your gaming then speed also.(ms, I like to have under 8ms) which Will cost even more.

Personaly, I would like thinner, becuase it means more deskspace, and even though I do own two LCD moniters, I prefer the picture on my CRT's better. I agree with your comment though... Who cares if its heavy? I'm not carring it around everywhere, Plus i can use it to work out!

The only reason I like LCD is because of all the things that cause interference on a CRT, like a UPS, a transformer, speakers, my heater (?)......etc. And the refresh rates are better on LCDs.

Not trying to offend your hosuehold here....But it sounds like the power was spread insuficently around your house, The only thing that ever bothered my CRT moniter was a Eletric Lawn moweer when I sued to have one, although that affected half my house, lights went dim for a second, that was a beastly electric lawnmower to start, heh.

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned, is no worry's about dead pixels, Also the on the cheaper LCD's the backlight goes bad within a couple years.

My LCD has far more contrast and better picture quality than any CRT ive seen and if you shop around, a 19" monitor isnt all that much, ive seen good ones with below 8ms response time for just around or even under $200. But hey, if you want to have a behemoth on your desk its your money and your preference.
Oh well i cant wait till OLED monitors are available hehe OLED will prolly kill LCD and CRT if they are made good enough.

Well if you read the reviews on at least the first one....No rebate relaly,. no support, and dies within a couple years. Great moniter there :)

Anothe thing about LCD's....IS they tend to have lower resalutions for the size, and it'll cost you alot more for something like 1600x1200 on a decent lcd.

Dont forget though if you plan on playing even americas army on your new monitor then you will probably want to up the resolution, and with doing that then you will need a dedicated graphics card because your fps will drop and then it will play choppy.

Well its not like he has to up the resulations.

Ya but everyone was talking about the resolutions of the monitors he should get, and there is no point in making sure that your monitor can run 1600x1200 if you are still gonna rune 800x600 in games.

So you can run 1600x1200 in other things....

I know what your saying, but the way you make your first post sound was that he was going to need a new video card, which isn;t nessasy, but it would be nice, games arn't the only thing to run in high res either.

Ok well maybe it was worded weird but what I was saying is taht he doesn't need to be that worried about resolution, becuase it he wants to use the higher resolutions for gaming then there will be a need for a new gpu, but if you are content with the resolution you are at, then it will be fine.

My responce will stay the same, a Higher resalution is nice for other things, and if hes getting 60fps on americas amera anyways, then he can probally up the res and still stay above 30, maybe not max out the res, but at least higher then what it is.

Well ya, but when you start hitting 30 fps you are gonna be dropping lower then that and then the game plays choppy. But yes higher resolutions are nice for other stuff.
