so I open up my old laptop since it wont boost pass the win 8 repair window thing and found out the cmos battery is missing is this a big problem?

You see no battery in the socket, or you don't see a socket anywhere? Did you completely strip the computer down?

CMOS batteries don't really solve boot issues anyway, unlike with desktops.

theres a socket but no battery the, I try doing a full system reboot and manual reboot to no avail. Keep giving me a BAD_POOL_HEADER I cant enter safe mode either so I cant get any dump files or anything.

Test your RAM and your hard drive. Sounds like bad hardware somewhere.

I only got one stick of ram so how do I go about testing it? and when I try to manual install win 7 onto it, it froze right when the flag logo start swirling around.

You can run a computer on a dead or missing CMOS battery, however if you lose power or unplug your computer your BIOS and clock will get reset. As Voyager said, that's not related to your problem.
