no dvd sound

I went to watch a movie on dvd with media player 11 today(got vista) the video plays perfectly but I get no sound how did this happen?

check your drivers, make sure your headphones aren't plugged in, make sure your sound options aren't muted, ummm...make sure you speakers are plugged in if you have them and lastly check and see if your DVD plays sound on other systems, especially if it's a burnt one.

it worked before but wont now
all other sound plays such as cds

maybe it's the DVD then? Was the sound on the DVD ever working?
