No input from Mic in XP

What am I missing? Im not getting any sound in. I know the microphone works.
(I unpluged the speaker to take the picture)

That is a jack plug from a phone mic that has an extra connector. It has four segments and a normal stereo mic jack will only have three. The chances are that that jack plug is not making with the connections on the card. That is an old card and it will only have a standard jack socket.
