No internet hardware

I built a friend a computer with this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131368 but when he tried to get online it said no hardware detected, with the cable plugged into the mobo not a NIC card, my computer never had this problem when i built it, they tried to diagnos new hardware and a connection but the mobo is not finding anything as if there was no internet at all. I really don't know where to start so I just bought a NIC card off newegg for a simple fix I hope, but has any one had a problem like this? When I built mine it connected right away.

What OS are you using? How does everything in device manager look? Any !'s or ?'s.

I know my motherboard had an apparent NIC issue. When I first load Vista x64, it's installed but will not enable until I load the most recent drives for it.
