No IP!!!

it might be a bad driver for why the interent wont work or it could be a bad system 32 file or something try reinstalling the driver or reinstalling windows
 
I highly doubt it's a driver issue if it says it's unplugged when he had it plugged in. You guys didn't even ask if it was plugged in on the other end...

Check the router/modem if it's connected directly to it, or try it with a new cable. If it was a bad driver then the network connection most likely won't shop up on the network connections page.
 
Go in to device manager, and check your devices, and see if any of them have a, "!" . More specifically the Network Adapters section.

Control Panel-System-Device Manager.

Good point..... could be a CAT5 cable problem - try another cable
