No More Waiting... Download The Internet!!

I had a computer science teacher tell us last semester that at one time IBM downloaded the whole internet and then put a link on their website to the backup, but this was a long time ago when it was much smaller I guess

Yeah IBM then converted it to a .zip file and had it backed up on 3 servers :P just in case the internet went down for back ups :P
 
LMAO!!! I can imagine a guy putting 10'000 drives on raid because there is always insufficient space...
The one with the web symbol going in the folder. Smart. Though you would have to wait for the hard drive to load the stuf anyway.

Yeah...that didn;t happen... say if you even just downloaded ALLT HE PORN ont he itnernet, it wouldprabally take up over 100TB

Well I ment back then, when the gu above me somewher claimed IMB claimed they did. To much porn on the internet, I just used uit to make a point :P
 
Back when the internet was first developed, you'd be hard pressed to be able to upload videos, or stream them, WAYYYY too slow.
 
i thought we made back ups of the internet every month and have thousands of pedabytes of it. and its IBM its not one person donwloading the internet. im sure they oculd pull something off.

well this guy was like 60 something and a genius so I wasn't going to question him, it supposedly happened like late 80's or early 90's before all you pervs started using the internet for just porno, so it was a hell of a lot smaller back then

WEll for one, uploading video's and having them on the web is alot differnet, becuas eyou just put put it on your server directly to the harddrive

Also for uploading that would be what's availble to the public, ther were fast lines then to, but there was NO one just a rgular person would have it. That would be like having a OC line now for home use.

There is not one big backup, that would be utterly pointles and would cost milloins, you would have to buy a few thousand 1TB harddrive's every day for whats uploaded
BUT Most people make backup's of there own sites(such as i do) seperatly which would equal up to that much.
to the IMB part, WHY would they do it? There owuld be no point :eek:
 
I can see a couple of people didn't actually click the button.
If you do thats when you get the whole Download The Internet thingy.
