No power to computer with new PSU

Hi guys.

I bought a computer by Tiny a few years ago and recently the PSU fan wasn't spinning recently.

The PSU isn't a normal ATX or Micro ATX, it's in between...I can't remember what it's called and apparently they are hard to get.

Anyway, I found one and I connected it up. However, the computer does not turn on. It's got power - I know that because the LAN light on the Gigabit PCI card lights up.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Yeah, all the cables are connected properly. I've not got much connected, only 4 PCI devices, a HDD and 2 optical drives. It's a 180W PSU, could this be why?

It's possible. What are the system specs, and what kind of PSU is it replacing?

It's got a P4 1.8GHz, DVD-RW, CD-RW, 40Gb IDE HDD, Radeon 7000 64Mb. In the PCI slots I have a Gigabit LAN card as previously stated, a firewire card and USB 2.0 PCI card.

The old PSU was also 180W.

I just can't understand why the LAN card would come on when I press the power button!

both have the same Amperage on the +12v line?
i know for a fact that PSU's loaded too heavy wont power up at all when they have to start up :)

There's nothing on the new PSU I installed but on the +12v rail it says 10A. So what should I do now?

Thanks

did the old PSU work fine? (except the Fan) maybe you can jsut get a new Fan for that one, and get the old PSU up and running again

Yeah it was working fine - it's just the fan I was concerned about. What do I do to replace the fan? I remember opening up an old PSU before and the fan was soldered into the PSU, I thought there'd be some kind of connector to make life easier!

Is that the same on all PSU fans?

well... if you cant put the Fan into the SPU, cou could maybe attach it to it on the outside ( well, inside the case, in front of the roster where the original fan is on the inside) and just power it using a 4pin molex, or even a 3 pin motherboard connector.

usually the cables are soldered on the print of the PSU, so i would think this one is too.

If the computer works with the old PSU, and doesn't work with the new, very similar, one, it sounds like the new unit may be defective. Can you RMA it?

PSU fans are often soldered into place, which makes replacing them difficult if you're not confident of your soldering skills.

Yeah well I've RMA'd the new PSU and should be getting a new one soon. My soldering skills? Well I used to solder a lot when I did Electronics GCSE but that was a couple of years ago. I remember burning my skin a lot of times too so maybe it's not a good idea for me to use one.. :P
