No Power?

Hello. I recently acquired an old laptop from a friend. I turned on the laptop, and it worked fine, although it had many viruses on it. I decided I would format the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7. After doing so, I was not able to turn on the laptop again. The battery was damaged, so it only functioned when I plugged it in with it's charger. Now it will not turn on at all. Can someone help me with this problem?

Laptop Model: Acer Aspire 5534-1096

Most likely either internal damage or a bad charging port which would need to be replaced. You would have to take it in to be diagnosed though. But my guess would be the bad charging port.

It seemed to have worked fine before I formatted the hard drive. I was thinking it had something to do with the format?

Formatting and reinstalling windows won't have anything to do with it not turning on.

It could be the battery, the charging port or even the charger itself.

Have you tried starting it with the charger plugged in, but the battery removed ?

I have tried that yes. I'm thinking johnb was right about the charging port being damaged. I remembered that the charger fell out of the charging port while the computer was on. I think that might have been what damaged the port.
