No Signal

Yes i know there have been lots of threads like this but i have read them and got only a little info and it didnt fix the problem

Okay so i have an ancient computer with an ancient monitor and it appears that the monitor is getting no signal. When i start up there are no beeps but everything appears to start up (fans come on, HD spins, lights come on etc.)

The computer was bought prebuilt.
I dont have any specs on the computer other than its a Gateway 2000, 64 MB ram, 233 MHz CPU, Windows 98 SE. I know nothing about the video card. It says "Nitro 3D/GX EDO 1.0"

I read in another thread to switch the ram. I tried every possible combonation but it doesnt help.
I cant tell if the video card is getting power because i dont know how to? There are no wires attatched to it.

I can post pictures if that would help. Ill do my best to answer any questions. Thanks

I tried starting up with no ram and there were no beeps so im guessing that the MOBO doesnt have a beep system
 
Hmmm... Thats not good. I dont have another one.
Thanks for the idea though, i might go use a friends.

Any other ideas?
 
go on the what is the brand and model number of the vid card...if you can get that i might be able to find the drivers for you to downoad...then you can reinstall the videocard...MIGHT work...

have you tryed taking the video card out, and putting it in another pci slot?
 
Yes i tried switching slots. I cant find the brand. ill take a pic in a minute. How would i instal drivers?
 
when you turn on your pc, your monitor says no signal?

if thats the case your going to have some trouble reinstalling. may need to just buy a new card

Okay well that went right over my head. What does it do? I thought it fixed a corrupt bios. Would a corrupt bios cause this problem?
 
well...if it were me in your position i would do the following


1) plug pc into another computer

2)get a old pc, tear the vid card out, put it in your computer(graphics will be crap but it will at least show you something other than no signal)


possibly could be a corrupt bios

but im going home for the night. ill be back tommorow, ill check in on it later

Lol.. couldnt be much worse than what this thing is. I think it has 2 MB Memory on the GPU.
Oh well. Ill probaby go down to good will and look for a computer(It'll be a beast).

Yes, clearing the CMOS might help, but i'm still inclined to think it's a video card problem. If clearing the CMOS doesn't help, maybe try to find a really old video card to test it out. You might be able to find one at a computer swapmeet for about $2.

Oh, and if you do buy a really old computer, make sure it's not so old that it still uses an ISA video card.
 
Yeah... You guys both missed the point. This is the really old computer. lol. But good will computers are like 5 Bucks but my mom said they dont have them any more.

The reason i needed it to work was my dad needed files off of it. I also wanted something to experiment on for stuff like linux, overclocking, modding, etc. That way i would have some experience. My dad is just gonna take the HD into a computer store but i still want the computer so i might buy a vid. card. But the more i think about it the less it seems worth it. I wouldnt want to spend more than $10 or $15.
