No sound after vista install???

So I have a gateway GM5626 that was given to me and i decided to start fresh and reinstall vista on it.

After I finished installing vista I now have no sound.

The volume in the bottom right corner of the screen is showing a green bar moving which i assume means it is trying to putout some sound.

I am using the aux port on the front of the computer to hook my stereo system up to it, I do not have surround sound to hook into the back.

I have installed the high definition driver (which according to msinfo is what sound card I have)

I did transport the computer in the back seat of a car on a bumpy 3 hour ride...maybe i jolted the sound card out of the slot?

Can anybody please help me? this is frustrating

EDIT: I just looked under playback and the front aux is not listed, it is telling me it is playing out of the rear RCA jack, maybe I just need to get RCA cables and forget about the aux port in the front

Make sure the default sound device is set to Speakers.

Also, go into Device Manager and see if you have any yellow exclamation marks next to any devices.

Tried that and i did not see any exclamation points

this is what the sound card looks like I am having trouble identifying it to make sure i downloaded the correct drivers

just found out that i downloaded the driver for xp and not vista so i am downloading the one for vista right now, i'll post updates

That's not a sound card. It's a TV tuner. Your sound card is built onto the motherboard.

yeah i figured that out, and was able to find drivers for it....I decided to upgrade to windows 7 since i had a disc sitting around thinking maybe that would help? well it didn't I am on windows 7 and still no sound.

Look in device manager, make sure there are no entries with yellow question/exclamation marks next to them. What entries are listed under sound in device manager?

just ran a diagnostic and it is telling me that I need to plug in speakers and everything is working correctly........this is not the case I have RCAs plugged into the back of the computer going to a receiver and I have an aux plugged in the front going to a receiver.....supposedly (according to my computer) there is sound coming out of the RCA cables.....there is not though

You have a generic sound driver installed but will still work. So what cable are you using for sound? You connect to the green port on the back for sound if using a standard cable. Look at this image.

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1014735R/1014735Rrvr5.shtml

Connect to the bottom green connector between the red and blue. Then go into control panel, sounds and make sure playback is set for high definition sound.

dude idk how that worked, i've tried all of those ports at least two times and got nothing but it's working now i'm sooooo pumped

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel dumb lol

now is there a better driver to install? the quality isn't the best
