No Sound for Windows media player

I'm running windows 98. I have sound for quicktime and mp3 and wav files, but most games and windows media player don't have sound. However, they do run. This all started when I cleared my drive and re-installed everything.
 
Strange that some programs have sound but, you could try reinstalling drivers. Don't know if that will work but it doesn't hurt. Hope this helps.
 
any idea which drivers I should use. I have cd that came with the motherboard and it had like 10 other sound drivers on it
 
what sound card do you have? that's usually the driver you want if you're not using onboard audio.
