No Sound from Computer.

I have a desktop that does not produce any sound. I am running a shuttle an35n Mobo on WinXP.

The mobo has integrated sound and I have installed the mobo drivers and the audio drivers from the CD...the integrated ports have no sound.

I tried some generic pci sound card...no sound.

Tried a soundblaster live 5.1 and installed the drivers..no sound.

A little popup balloon on the bottom right said there was some kind of hardware error after the driver installation and said the hardware might not work properly, but gave no more details. After a reboot after the installation of drivers, no sound still.

I thought it might have something to do with the mobo drivers conflicting with the soundblaster drivers..so i disabled the mobo audio drivers..i still get no sound.

However, when I first put in the two different sound cards, the computer can recognize the new hardware so I'm guessing it's not the cards or even the pci port.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what i could do or tell me what could be wrong? I'd really appreciated it..thanks!

Have you made the sound card a primary? So the main sound card for the sound??

How old is the motherboard?

how would i make it a primary?

I"m not sure how old the mobo is..maybe 4-5 years

Under Control Panel... sound.... then make the motherboard the primary sound card.

and maybe your motherboard is starting to die.....:cool:

Motherboard slots don't die that fast. I have a 90's P166 and all of them work fine.

I'm guessing a IRQ conflict...

yeah i've tried that. I checked sound on both the mobo sound card on on my SB live card. Changed settings under control panel.
