No sound on desktop - Please help

sorry for newb-ness of this question

after formatting my Dell inspiron 530 desktop, I downloaded a bunch of drivers from dell website for my comp, including the audio driver
when I run the audio driver, a dos-like window just pops up for a fraction of a second the disappears, after which I still don't have audio, unlike all the other driver files from dell, they go through some sort of file extraction and/or set up

could someone please help me out?

What is the service tag number of your machine. It should be listed on the case somewhere. Which driver did you download? Soundblaster or Realtek?
