No sound on the internet

I purchased a Dell Studio desktop computer from PC World about a week ago.
Everything seemed to be running perfectly untill when i tried to play a video on Youtube and i noticed there was no sound. I thought it was the headphones i was using so i changed them but still no sound. When i tried to play something in Media Player thesound worked fine. I thought it was working at that point so loaded YouTube but still no sound.

I have checked the sound levels were up and not muted on Youtube and have tried other sites but the sound problem on the internet is still there.

Any ideas?

you have to restart your computer happens to me all the time
