I dont get any sound from webpages like youtube or google videos, it use too work but now for some reason it doesnt, its the same for Firefox and Explorer. Can any one help.

P.S my speakers are on..

It sounds like the drivers were knocked out if you are not hearing the default Windows wav files as well. If you have sound for WMP and different functions in Windows you will probably need to reinstall QuickTime or RealPlayer to see this corrected.

Sometimes you will get prompted to install the latest ITunes, RealPlayer, or even OuickTIme at some of the sites. This is mainly seen due to the Apple/Mac nature of the video playback there where you need Apple elements for playback on a Windows OSed machine. At least you know it's not the card or drivers at your end.

Hey PC eye you seem like you have knowledge on audio drivers. Could you maybe help me out with my problem? After using system recovery, my sound stopped working altogethor, windows media player says I don't have an audio mixer/ driver thing. I would appreciate it. thanx

During the restore process even when going to perform a repair install on Windows you often have to reinstall drivers for both video and sound at times. The best move there is to go into the device manager and right click on the model card shown in the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers section. Have the cd for the card in the drive or have the latest update stored on the hard drive and unpacked when choosing the update driver option.

You simply browse through the folders on the disk or into the folder for the updated set there. Once Windows detects the driver listed that you simply highlight and press ok on Windows will usually copy and install them right away making them active. You still may have to reboot to see the sound return however.

Not sure

Alrighty, what you're saying makes sense except I'm not sure where to begin looking for updated drivers. Under the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers section there doesn't seem to be a problem with them, they're installed. there is a problem under "other devices" where there is an exclamation point on the multimedia audio controller. The problem is, I don't have a disk or anything that came with the computer to reinstall this. Whenever I right click, properties, the first thing it says is "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" The controller has no digital signature, or any info on it. I find intel audio controllers ( 5 of them and they have a green checkmarks on them) whenever I click reinstall from a specific location, located under sounds, video and game controllers and I would procede to simply attempt to reinstall one by one them without a disk but a a window pops up saying its not recommended because windows cannot verify whether they're compatible. My next option would be to uninstall the whole thing but I don't think that would be smart since I have no way of reinstalling it. This is where I'm stuck. Thanx for the help Pc eye
Oh by the way I still have my backup files from before the system recovery. Is there anyway to go back to those settings? Where could I find the driver under those files?

With the onboard sound there you would go to the board manufacturer's own support site to download the latest update for sound there. If it has an installer life gets a little easier since that will remove the old in favor of the new. If not you save those to specific folder to unpack them if in the usual zip file or open with the often seen "exe" for self extracting.

Then you simply go back into the DM and right click on the "other" item seen since that is your problem. One or more of the board's sound driver's were knocked out and made inactive. The method there installs a newer set to replace the now defunct drivers seeing problems.

What are you referring to when you say the "board manufacturer's"? Whenever I right click on the problem device it gives me no info on it whatsoever. the provider is unknown.

The board manufacturer is the company that makes the main system board seen in the case. Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, DFI, Abit, Foxconn, ECS, are all trade names for electronics and pc hardware companies. Do you know who made the board? Or is that a prebuilt system like a Dell, HP, Gateway, or Sony Vaio even?
