No visual

My computer was working fine less then an hour ago and know I can't see anything on my monitor. My computer will start up but no visual.

Help. Is my on board video card dead? I've had the computer since boxing day.

I'm sure you've done the obvious, checking it's switched on, no loose connections, brightness not turned down. It can't be sleeping if you have tried rebooting.

The first step would be to get another monitor and connect. Not a lot you can see when you are blind. That will at least point in the direction of the fault. You could try turning the monitor on when disconnected from the computer or connect it to a laptop or other PC.

My monitor works when it is connected to my laptop. So the issue would have to be hardware on my pc. I hope my motherboard is not broken. The heatsink is is spinning but I can't say for sure.

You said "on board video card", do you mean the integrated video? If that is all you have you are rather stuck. I don't know how you could test it. Perhaps that would need a shop visit.

If you have a graphics card lying around you could install it. Even if you don't you can get cards very cheap these days (cheaper than a MB). I've never done this so can't speak from experience. Discharge your static by touching the PC case. Turn the PC off, disconnect mains power cable. Discharge your static again on the case/chassis. Remove the MB battery. Hold the PC "On" switch for 10-20 secs to discharge any stored power. Install graphics card. Replace battery, plug the PC back in and start. Hopefully it will detect the graphics card and you can go from there.
