The Sparkle card has more memory, so, that's the one I would purchase.
I would not get either one, for a few bucks more you can get a 3850 that will beat both.

The 3850 is a good little card but the 3870 is not worth it now since Nvidia has a 256mb 8800GT one now for alittle over 200 bucks

Yes the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe is a good board, if your not planning on running SLI they make a M2N-E 570 Ultra thats not SLI for about 20 bucks cheaper if you can get it. And no ATI does not crash any worse than Nvidia, they both have kinda buggie drivers in one way or another.
No, you can just SLI Nvidia cards, you would have to get a Crossfire motherboard to use 2 ATI cards in crossfire

Well flat out the 3850 is better than the 8600GTS no matter what he says, but you cant run SLI with ATI cards. the 8600GTS is priced to high for the performance. You might be better off saving up alittle more and just get a 256mb 8800GT.
If it has 320mbs then its a 8800GTS, if your going with AMD processors you could look at some of the new AM2+ boards with the AMD 790X and 790FX chipsets, they run crossfire and have Hypertransport 3.0, PCIe 2.0. That way if you update to the Phenom later on you will have a board that fully supports it
Right, theres some companys putting out AM2 boards with a bios update to support the Phenom calling them AM2/AM2+ boards. The Asus board that you picked out will support the Phenom with a bios update, but with missing features like you said PCIe 2.0, Hypertransport 3.0, Support for DDR2 1066 and on a true AM2+ board you can adjust the MHZ and voltage on each core separate.

Yes the 512mb 3870 is a good card too, dont know how it stacks up against the 256mb 8800GT but the 8800GT 512mb its about 40 or 50 bucks more than the 3870.

This Acer is not bad for 170 bucks but its 5ms and 700:1, have installed quite a few and havent had any complaints
